Man given bag to keep facing ganja charge

A man who allegedly had a quantity of cannabis in his possession was yesterday remanded to prison when he made his appearance before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation is that on October 6 at Georgetown, Timothy Curt had in his possession 22 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

The defendant in his response told the court that he was given a bag to keep by another, and did not know that the bag contained the illegal substance.

“I am innocent of these things my worship,” the defendant cried.

Initially, Curt pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when it was read to him but after listening to his explanation the magistrate entered a not guilty plea for him.

Curt was later remanded to prison and ordered to return to court on November 11.
