Aliann upgraded to silver

After originally winning the bronze, Guyana’s track and field star Aliann Pompey has been awarded the silver medal in the women’s 400 meters at the recently completed Commonwealth Games, which were held in Delhi, India.  Pompey was upgraded after the silver medalist, Nigerian Folashade Abugan, was disqualified, according to CNN.

According to Pompey’s Manhattan College website,  Pompey ran a season-best time of 51.65 seconds to earn her second career Commonwealth Games medal.  She was the gold medalist at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.

Botswana’s Amantle Montsho won the gold medal in a Games-record time of 50.10 seconds, the 10th fastest time in the world in 2010.  The bronze medal has now been awarded to Christine Amertil of the Bahamas, who finished in 51.96 seconds.
