Skeldon vendor dead, two critical in separate accidents

One man is dead and two others are in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) following three separate accidents yesterday.

Dead is 48-year-old Skeldon Market vendor Rudolph February, a father of three of Lot 190, Kingston, Corriverton, Corentyne.

According to reports February was travelling home on his motorcycle from church around 7:45 last evening along the Corriverton Public Road when he was struck down by a ‘Tapir’, registered as 86117.

Reports are that the man rode out of a street and while entering the public road was hit by the vehicle. He reportedly died on the spot. The man’s relatives told this newspaper last evening that he was a regular visitor to the church in the area.

Sometime after 10 pm last night, 40-year old security guard   Doodnauth Sukraj called ‘Jack” of Lot, 171 First Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara was travelling to his worksite at the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) when he was struck down by a car. The man sustained severe head injuries, and according to relatives was bleeding through his ear and nose. He was still unconscious up to press time.

At the GPH, the man’s wife Savitri was overwhelmed with emotion as relatives prayed for her husband’s survival. Relatives stated that Sukraj, an employee of United Associates Security Service, was on his way to his worksite after leaving a wake house when he was struck down on the railway embankment in the vicinity of the Graham’s Hall Primary School. He was rushed to the GPH by public spirited citizens while the driver of the car is reportedly in police custody.

And sometime after 10:30 last night another man, 40 year old Nigel Wright, of Lot 14, Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara was rushed to the GPH in an unconscious state after he was struck down by a car, reportedly driven by a police rank, close to the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost.

Wright, who sustained head injuries was said to be unconscious and his uncles with whom he lived were hoping for the best at the GPH last evening.
