Police destroy ganja fields

Eight acres of marijuana plants were found and destroyed by police during operations up the Demerara River on Wednesday.

In addition, 30 kilogrammes of dried marijuana and nine nurseries with about 2,000 seedlings were found and destroyed, the police said in a statement yesterday. On Wednesday, ranks conducted narcotics eradication operations up the Demerara River at Waradong and Dora.

At Waradong, the police found a four-acre field of about 500 marijuana plants ranging between three feet and seven feet in height, along with five nurseries containing approximately 1,000 seedlings.

At Dora, another four-acre field with about 7,500 marijuana plants ranging between three feet and seven feet in height was found. In addition, a camp with 30 kilogrammes of dried marijuana and four nurseries with about 1000 seedlings were found.

The marijuana plants, seedlings and dried marijuana were destroyed. No arrest was made, the police said.
