SkyVan nose wheel buckles

A  SkyVan aircraft belonging to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) sustained slight damage after the aircraft’s main landing gear broke shortly after landing at the Timehri airport yesterday.

Reports are that a trainee pilot was being evaluated sometime after 3 pm yesterday afternoon when the incident occurred. A source noted that the aircraft, bearing registration 8R–GGK, had just landed on the main runway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri (CJIA) when its nose wheel buckled.

The evaluation of the trainee pilot had been completed and the aircraft was returning to the army’s base at Air Corps when the incident occurred. In addition to the pilot, a flight instructor and an engineer were said to be on board the aircraft at the time.

The aircraft was subsequently taken off the runway and the extent of the damage is being evaluated, this newspaper was told.
