Regions have to deal with Bagotville, Golden Grove school problems -Baksh

In a GINA statement, Baksh emphasised that “the reported concerns are the responsibility of the respective Regional Administrations, whose responsibilities include infrastructural work, appointing teachers and providing furniture.”

The minister indicated that the water pump at the Golden Grove Primary was burnt beyond repair but said that another was secured.  It should have been installed on Thursday.  Meanwhile concerning the shortage of teachers at Bagotville, the Minister indicated that the absence of the two trained teachers would be reported to the Guyana Teachers’ Union.  According to the release, another teacher was sent to the school but the parents refused to accept that.

Parents of students at the two institutions had shut down the schools on November 9 over poor conditions and lack of teachers.
