Two well-dressed young men who allegedly staged a robbery attack outside the Bank of Nova Scotia, New Amster-dam branch, on Monday were remanded to prison until Christmas Eve by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo.
Dexter Gibson and Dellon Holder gave police conflicting addresses, claiming to have lived together at Charlestown. However, in the New Amsterdam Court yesterday Gibson, 21, said he lived at William Street, Kitty, while his alleged accomplice, Holder, 23, informed the court that he lived at North Ruimveldt, both locations in Georgetown.
Prosecutor, Police Cor-poral Roberto Figueira objected to their pre-trial liberty, citing the nature and gravity of the offence, while noting that the men were from another jurisdiction, and may not attend court should they be granted bail.
The duo, who were unrepresented, were not required to plead to the charge of attempting to commit a felony, to wit robbery.
On Monday, a mid-morning robbery was foiled in Berbice after an employee of ‘Stretch D Dollar’ store in New Amsterdam alerted public-spirited citizens that her attacker was a thief and was not related to her as he had pretended.
Kerry Boucher was walking along Strand, New Amsterdam, Berbice, about 08:30 am when one of two neatly attired men approached her and attempted to steal her handbag.
At the time, the cashier was in the vicinity of the Bank of Nova Scotia where she was going to do a transaction.
An eyewitness who was vending nearby, who spoke on condition of anonymity, recalled seeing the unmasked man attempting to grab the bag which reportedly contained $200,000, while his alleged accomplice was a short distance away.
The store employee raised an alarm but initially persons hesitated to go to her assistance because the man was saying that she was his girlfriend who had his cellular phone and he wanted it.
