Businesswoman screams, foils armed robbery

Two armed men tried to stick up a Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara businesswoman shortly before midnight last night, but were forced to flee empty-handed after she started screaming uncontrollably for help.

One of the robbers, said to be in his late teens, was arrested at a house in the area shortly after the incident.

Divisional Commander Gavin Primo earlier today confirmed the incident. He said that just before midnight Donna Fordyce was driving her vehicle into her yard when she saw two men, one armed with a handgun and the other with a machete advancing towards her.

According to the Assistant Commissioner, the woman started screaming for help, which caused the perpetrators to “fire shots” before escaping.
Police responded promptly and the matter is being investigated.
