Lad accused of looting woman’s house of DVD player and CDs

A teenager accused of breaking into a woman’s house and stealing a DVD player and a quantity of CDs was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

It is alleged that on November 19 at Georgetown, Jason Prince of 70 Bent Street, Wortmanville broke and entered the dwelling house of Delicia Thompson and stole one DVD player and a number of CDs, all to the value of $16,000, property of Delicia Thompson.

The 18-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.

In giving the facts of the case, Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question, the virtual complainant left her home and secured it by means provided and upon her return she noticed that the items were missing.

According to Telford, the accused was seen by neighbours coming out of the woman’s house with the loot. He was apprehended and handed over to the police who were subsequently summoned to the scene.

The prosecution made an application that the accused be remanded to prison, citing the prevalence of the offence.

The prosecution’s request was granted and the unrepresented lad was later denied his pretrial liberty and ordered to return to court on December 10 for reports and fixtures.
