Triumph businessman shot in neck by bandits

A 58-year-old Triumph, East Coast Demerara shop owner was shot in the neck last night by one of four bandits who confronted him and is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Police sources this morning told Stabroek News that Lokie Narine of 123 Triumph, East Coast Demerara, was in his shop at around 8.45 pm when he was confronted by the men. Reports are that the man’s shop is located in the bottom flat of his two-storey building and it is heavily grilled. The grill work prevented the four bandits from entering the shop but they drew hand guns and demanded money from the shop owner. The man refused and three shots were fired in his direction by one of the men and he was hit in the neck by one.

The bandits fled and the man was rushed to the hospital where he is said to be in a stable but critical condition.

Police are continuing their investigation.
