Deportation of Haitians by US to resume

(BBC) Immigration advocates in the United States have reacted with dismay at a decision by the Obama administration to resume the deportations of Haitians with criminal records from next month.

Expulsions to Haiti were put on hold by the Department of Homeland Security in the days following January’s devastating earthquake.

Officials say that more than 300 Haitians are currently in detention having served sentences for a variety of crimes – some serious such as murder and sexual assault.
