East Canje children feted by Rotary

Over 75 children from Betsy Ground, Canefield and Sheet Anchor in East Canje, Berbice were given a special treat at the New Amsterdam Rotary Club’s annual Christmas party for ‘needy children.’The event was held last Sunday at the Rose Hall Estate Welfare Ground.

The children enjoyed the food, drinks and music as Rotarians and their families “spread cheer and joy during the festive season.” In a release the club said that Santa Claus was there to present the children with toys and goodies. The children also had a chance to dance and sing Christmas songs with Santa. The joy and happiness seen on the faces of the children brought satisfaction to the Rotarians whose motto is: “Service Above Self.”The club also visited the Children’s Ward at the New Amsterdam Hospital and presented them with toys and goodies.

It had also donated blankets, clothing, detergents, stationery and other supplies to the Amerindian Hostel, the Good Samaritan Home and the Sisters of Mercy in New Amsterdam.

According to the release, “This is all part of the club’s programme to reach out to the less fortunate and needy persons in the community.”
