Brother-in-law murder suspect still on the run

The man accused of fatally stabbing his brother-in-law, Ravindra Sookhoo on Boxing Day remained on the run yesterday.

Sookhoo, a 24-year-old father of two was stabbed to death on Sunday evening allegedly by his brother-in-law following a scuffle after Sookhoo had slapped his wife during a family gathering at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. Sookhoo,of Lot 154 Belle Vue Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara had met his alleged killer for the first time that day at a family gathering at his wife’s mother’s home in the Diamond Housing Scheme.

Police had said in a statement that they are investigating the murder. Investigations revealed that Sookhoo and another man were imbibing during which an argument developed between them and he was allegedly stabbed to his body, the police said. Sookhoo was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he died.

The assailant remains on the run, relatives said yesterday. An autopsy was also conducted on Sookhoo’s body yesterday and it revealed that he died of shock and hemorrhage due to a stab in the heart. Police investigations continue.
