Guyanese murder suspect held in T&T forest

(Trinidad Express) A Guyanese national wanted for the murder of 29-year-old Nyla Khan was arrested in a forested area at Rio Claro on Monday.

The 36-year-old mason was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

There were marks on his neck and investigators believe he attempted to hang himself.

The suspect, who went into hiding after the killing, was taken into police custody around 2.15 p.m.

He was found hiding in bushes, police said.

The man is expected to be charged with chopping to death Khan, a mother of one, at her home at Rio Claro.

Her body was found in a bedroom on December 13.

Her hands were tied behind her back and her head was almost severed, police said.

Her two-year-old son was spending the weekend at an aunt’s house at the time of the killing.

Relatives said Khan, a merchandiser, had been in an abusive relationship for three years and wanted to get out.
