Six Guyanese, one Jamaican held in Lara robbery

The men, six Guyanese and one Jamaican, were held at house at Farouk Drive by officers of the Port-of-Spain Division, led by acting ASP Sahadeo Singh.

Police seized five laptop computers, a signature cricket bat and a pair of cricket pads. Investigators said one of the laptops disappeared from Lara’s home last year. Only on Monday, Lara’s ex-maid, Anmarie Marcano, 52, appeared before Port-of-Spain Magistrate Brian Dabideen, charged with stealing more than $20,000 in items from Lara’s home. She pleaded not guilty to the charges. The matter comes up again today.

The pre-dawn exercise started at 4 am and ended four hours later. The seven suspects were taken into custody. Four of the men, police said, were in the country illegally. Up to late yesterday, the suspects, ages 20 to 30, were being interviewed by detectives at the Port-of-Spain CID, in connection with the February 2 theft at Lara’s Knaggs Hill, Port-of-Spain, home, in which a vault containing close to $1 million in cash and jewellery was stolen.
