A 32-year-old woman of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice was hacked to death and her mother badly chopped when her husband attacked them with a cutlass around 1.30 am yesterday.

Liloutie ‘Pinky’ Seeram, a mother of two, was wounded to the back of her head and three fingers on her left hand were severed. Her mother, Lata ‘Cheryl’ Inderdeo, 52, suffered chops to her right shoulder and left palm and is in a stable condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

This newspaper learnt that Seeram and her husband, Rooplall ‘Kelly’ Boodhoo, 35, a canecutter, had constant misunderstandings over his drinking habits and he would physically abuse her. He fled the scene with a rope and a cutlass after committing the act and the police are seeking him.

Neighbours told Stabroek News that they heard the man had been drinking with a brother and friends earlier and had just arrived home when he and his wife started arguing. They heard Seeram asking him, “Wha you coming in hey this hour fuh?”

After that they said “we hear somebody hollering ‘ow God, help me!’ But we din know was wah going on. We thought was one of their regular fights…”

A woman said when she looked out she saw Boodhoo “walking up and down the stairs.” She also heard Inderdeo, a former teacher, calling in a faint voice for another neighbour. She had escaped from her attacker and run out on the street and through a track to call for help.

The friend then shouted for Boodhoo’s brother who rushed over to the scene. After seeing his sister-in-law he cried out, “Oh God Kelly, look wah yuh do.”

Another woman said she saw when the brother along with other relatives lifted Seeram out of the house. She was covered in blood and appeared to be dead. She along with her mother was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where her death was confirmed.

At the scene, this newspaper observed trails of blood leading from the stairs along the concrete walkway. A pool of blood was also at the gate, suggesting that Inderdeo had stood there for a while, struggling to get it open.

The murder took place in the couple’s bedroom which was badly ransacked. The bed was pushed from its position and there was a pool of blood in the corner behind the bed. Blood was also spattered on the wall while a blood soaked mosquito net was on the floor.

The house where the murder took place has empty lots on both sides and persons were heard commenting “if people bin live more close this won’ta happen to these women.”

Inderdeo, who is separated from Seeram’s father, Ramnarine Seeram, resided in St Kitts for five years after she married her second husband.

That marriage ended as well and she returned over one year ago and was staying for most of the time with her daughter and son-in-law and their children: Nerissa, 13 and Nicholas, 11. At the time of the chopping the children were spending the night at their grandfather’s house in the nearby Edinburgh Village.

Ramnarine, who works at the Rose Hall Estate, told this newspaper that Nicholas had gone to his house earlier on Friday. Around 5.30 pm, he said, he picked up Nerissa and he cooked dinner for them.

The children last spoke to their mother around 8.30 pm. She had called to see what they were doing and they responded that they were watching television with their grandfather.

Ramnarine said that around 6 am yesterday two persons went to his house and told him that he had to go to the hospital. They did not tell him his daughter was dead.

However, he said, he suspected Boodhoo had done something to her, especially after seeing one of her friends crying on the road, “because he [Boodhoo] like drink rum and fight.” Ramnarine said he asked his daughter’s friend what was wrong but she did not answer him. Instead of going to the hospital, he said, he then went to his workplace to inform his employers that he would not be working and when he returned home he “see a lot of people and me done know she dead.”

Before moving to the Glasgow scheme, he said, his daughter and son-in-law lived with him. He recalled that Boodhoo used to “beat me daughter plenty times and he even threatened me.” According to him, the matters were reported to the police but would be resolved each time.

He too would talk to his son-in-law about his behaviour, he said, but he had not been involved in their affairs for a long time. He felt that they were “big enough… they could manage with their own lives… but I can’t say if they had recent problems.”
