Miner charged with damaging woman’s property

Shaw Mohammed was remanded to prison on Tuesday when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Christianburg Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge of malicious damage to property.

Mohammed, 31, of Lot 1 Rainbow City, pleaded not guilty to the charge. It was alleged that on Sunday April 11, at Rainbow City Mackenzie, Linden he unlawfully and maliciously damaged a TV set, a fan, three plates and a picture frame, valued $50,400. The items were the property of Clementine Peres.

Mohammed was remanded to prison after the police objected to bail on the ground that he is a likely flight risk, because he is a miner and works in the interior. The case was adjourned to June 2.
