Dabydeen is ambassador to China

Government yesterday confirmed that Professor David Dabydeen has been appointed Guyana’s ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.

According to a GINA press release, China has granted agreement to the Guyana government for the appointment of Prof Dabydeen as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary.

The release stated that Dabydeen will take up the appointment shortly.

Dabydeen was professor at the Centre for Caribbean Studies at the University of Warwick where he specialised in eighteenth and nineteenth century Caribbean and Black British culture and history.

He also served as the ambassador/permanent delegate to UNESCO since 1997 GINA added. Among Dabydeen’s many literary accomplishments is being awarded the Guyana Prize for Literature and his several publications of nineteenth century texts of Chinese migrants to Guyana.
