Sharma witness tampering case for next month

Broadcaster and politician Chandra Narine Sharma on Tuesday made another court appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was informed that the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the witness tampering matter against him will commence early next month.

Sharma had appeared before Magistrate Fazil Azeez to hear Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack inform the magistrate that the case file and statements are all in order as it related to the witness tampering charge against him and that the prosecution was ready to proceed with the matter.

The magistrate later ordered that Sharma return to court on June 2, when the carnal knowledge matter is scheduled to continue and again on June 16 for the commencement of the PI in the witness tampering case.

The particulars as it relates to the witness tampering matter stated that on April 15, he wilfully attempted to obstruct the course of justice by removing two of the girls at the centre of the allegations against him from their known address and taking them to a house at 123 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara in order to prevent them from being questioned by the police in relation to the allegations.

On April 24, three persons, including CN Sharma’s son-in-law, were charged after they allegedly offered inducements to the young girls at the centre of the child molestation case.

Two of CN Sharma’s employees were charged with attempting to obstruct the course of justice on that same day.

They were each granted $100,000 bail.
