Justice William Ramlal yesterday sentenced Keron Lord to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Keron Lord
McGiver Pierre

Lord, 22, formerly of Lot 46 East La Penitence, Georgetown admitted to killing McGiver Pierre.

The incident occurred in February 2005 at a Vlissengen Road location where the two men were employed at the time.

Attorney Basil Williams represented Lord while Prosecutor Shivani Balcharan presented the state’s case.

The formal indictment was read to Lord at the Demerara Assizes on Tuesday. Reports reaching this newspaper in 2005 had said that Lord told Pierre something derogatory and a fight broke out.

Lord then stabbed Pierre from behind with a broken bottle.

The incident occurred at about 10 that night. Pierre was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his wound some two and a half hours later, reports had said.

The defendant was first charged with murder at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on March 3, 2005.

He had been remanded by then Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan and had been in prison while awaiting his High Court trial.
