Yesterday, marshals from the High Court descended on the Discount Store on Regent Street where they seized numerous boxes of fake Piccadilly brand shoes.

According to Dolores Thompson, Manager of Bhena’s on Regent Street, Bhena’s is the authorised agent for the Piccadilly brand shoes in Guyana. In January, she said, while the owner of the brand was in Guyana, he received reports that there were fake versions of the shoes on the market. Additionally, she said, several persons went to the store to return shoes that they had not bought there; making management aware that someone was indeed retailing the fake version.

Thompson said after investigations were completed, Bhena’s moved to the court through its attorney and was able to get an order for the seizure of the articles.

When the officers of the court went to Discount Store with the order at 10 am, the store’s management denied that it sold that brand of shoes.  However, when the officers went up to the bond, they unearthed numerous boxes which they removed.

Meanwhile, Thompson said they have not been able to determine the exact quantity of the fake product since there are “hundreds of boxes.”  She said the items will be stored until they can be discarded.

When approached for a comment, the Discount Store’s manager declined to comment.
