Twenty-year-old man shot twice on Alexander St

A man is nursing gunshot wounds at the Georgetown Hospital following an argument on Alexander Street, Kitty on Monday night.

The injured man has been identified at 20-year-old Tshawn Haywood of 121 Thomas Street, Kitty.

He was shot in the back and abdomen by an unknown assailant. This newspaper understands that following the incident, the injured man was rushed to the operating theatre. It is unclear if any bullets were removed from his body.

Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told Stabroek News yesterday that there in no information on what the two men were arguing about as ranks have been unable to speak with Haywood. Persaud told this newspaper that the incident occurred around 21:50 hours in a yard on Alexander Street.

When Stabroek News visited the injured Haywood in the High Dependency Unit, he declined to comment. He was bleeding from a bandaged wound that was just above his navel.

At the scene of the incident, a resident recalled hearing one gunshot and upon looking out saw Haywood “clutching he belly and saying how a man shoot he and he riding up de road…” However the resident said when she looked in the direction the man was pointing she did not see anyone.

She added that she didn’t know who shot the man or what he (Haywood) was doing there. Haywood according to her was never seen there before.

According to the resident, a report was made at the nearby Kitty Police Station and Haywood was rushed to the hospital.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
