Cemetery Road hit-and-run victim needs blood

The woman who was struck down by a hit-and-run driver last week has taken a turn for the worse and is in need of blood.

Yonette Neptune, 38, was moved to the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital from the High Dependency Unit. The Stevedore Housing Scheme resident is nursing two broken legs and continues to slip in and out of consciousness.

Her sister, Janice, told Stabroek News yesterday that Neptune needs four pints of blood as she is scheduled for another surgery. According to Janice, the doctor said that her sister has lost a lot of blood. One relative has agreed to give a pint. Neptune’s blood type is O positive, Janice said. She added that “right now things really hard” since she also has to care for a sick mother.

Neptune was hit by a vehicle on the corner of Norton Street and Cemetery Road some time between 2.30 am to 4 am on August 3. She was said to have been lying helpless there until a passing security vehicle picked her up and took her to the hospital.

Janice said a report was made at the East La Penitence Police Station on Monday. However, the police are saying that they cannot do anything because they do not have a licence plate number, she said.
