Missing Pomeroon farmer’s body found in river

The decomposing body of a man of mixed race was found floating in the Pomeroon River around midday yesterday, two days after he went missing. According to reports, the body was identified as that of 57-year-old Pomeroon farmer Herman Boodhoo of Friendship, Lower Pomeroon.

The body was found by passers-by who were heading towards Charity to do shopping as yesterday was market day. The body was identified by his wife 57-year-old Janette Boodhoo. According to reports reaching this newspaper, Boodhoo had informed his wife that he was going for an outing on Saturday night last, after which he left in a small canoe. When he did not return home, the family grew worried.  Subsequently, Boodhoo’s wife reported him missing at the Charity Police Station on Sunday.

Stabroek News understands that the Boodhoos were married for 35 years; a union which produced eight children.

The body was handed over to the family by the police for burial because of its decomposition. According to a confidential source there were no marks of violence on the body.
