Bandit shot dead in Chateau Margot attack identified as 17-yr-old

Daniels’ body was found lying on the roadway with gunshot injuries following an exchange of gunfire between the bandits and the members of the Community Policing Group (CPG), after the attack on Ramah.

When Stabroek News visited Daniels’ Norton Street home yesterday, his father said he knew nothing about the incident leading to his son’s demise. The man, who did not give his name, said he knew that his son “used to wuk bus” for the last few months. At one point during the brief discourse with this newspaper, he described his son as “wutless” but did not elaborate on this.

The father said that while his son did not live with him, he last saw him on Tuesday morning and the two of them had a dispute over a relationship his son was having with a young lady. The man said he then left the home and didn’t see his son alive again.

When he enquired about his son some time after, the father said, he was told by one of the brothers that he had probably gone to Cayenne. The father said this did not disturb him since his son normally did his own thing.  However, subsequently, he heard rumours that his son had been killed and eventually he went and checked the mortuary where it was confirmed.  His son, he said, was shot in the middle of his chest.

Meanwhile, the man expressed disappointment at the treatment meted out to his son. He said several persons told him that his son arrived at the hospital alive but he was “dashed in a corner” and neglected as people kept saying that he was a criminal. The man said Daniels’ mother was at the hospital at the time, and she recounted hearing the commotion, but did not realize that it was her own son in the corner at the time.

On Tuesday, police said, about 9.30 am that day a group of five men entered the business premises of the L & D Supermarket at Second Street, Chateau Margot, where they held up the employees and placed them to lie on the ground. Of the group, two of the men were armed; one with a gun and a second with a knife.

Police said Ramah, 64, the owner of the business, raised an alarm and armed himself with a cutlass.

He managed to wound one of the perpetrators but was shot twice to his chest.  The bandits subsequently ran out of the house. Two suspects have since been charged and two others are still on the run.

During the same incident, Chairman of the Community Policing Group Davenand Shyamraj was shot after he confronted the fleeing group. A passerby, Daniel Muller, 72, also sustained a gunshot wound.
