The Palestinian issue should be settled if terrorism is to be reduced

Dear Editor,

I like most people around the world am happy the bomb carried by the young Nigerian on Delta Airlines on Christmas Day failed to go off and as such a horrific tragedy was prevented. Naturally there will now be more security precautions and more delays at airports, and of course more resources will be expended, yet the western world leaders will not address the root cause of all these terrorist acts by settling the Palestinian issue.

Al Qaeda will always find people sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, and while the security people will always have to be on high alert the bomber will only have to be lucky once in a while. Making a just settlement for the Palestinians will greatly reduce the threat of terrorism and all the world leaders know this.

The BBC further reported that Christians in Iraq are living in fear now because of extremist Muslim terror. Well, the Iraqi Christians have to thank Tony Blair and his partner George W Bush for their predicament. Saddam Hussain allowed all religions to flourish freely, but as Tony Blair said recently, even if he had known Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction he would still have gone after Saddam, yet Blair is not jailed for crimes against humanity.

Yours faithfully,
WP George
