Help improve the environment for the 40th Republic anniversary

Dear  Editor,

As we approach the 40th anniversary of our Republic, I wish on behalf of the Georgetown municipality to make an appeal to all businesses, institutions and individuals to make an effort to improve the environment where they live and/or operate.

The council will be doing what is possible with its limited resources, but looks forward to the cooperation of all concerned – specifically, how we can help to control the growing number of persons who roam and disturb garbage bins and other receptacles of waste. We often refer to the individuals as ‘junkies.’ But do help keep them away from making our situation worse.

Some time ago I appealed to the family members of these awkward persons to help get them appropriate medical treatment. Many can be helped back to normal and productive activity, and I once again make an appeal.

Citizens, do help keep the parapets, roads, and verges around your buildings properly maintained and tidy. Light up and paint your buildings for our 40th Republic anniversary.

We continue our efforts to improve the horrible conditions at the cemetery and other open spaces. Please contact the City Engineer or my office to help, and cooperate where necessary.

Yours faithfully,
Hamilton Green
Mayor
