Diamond New Scheme roads in deplorable state

It is commendable that the new Guyoil filling station is open since customers are now finding it a great convenience, especially those who live in the Diamond and neighbouring communities. It is also hoped that the roads in the immediate communities will be properly built to complement the new look that the area will be taking on in the very near future.

I live in the front area of the New Scheme. This block has two access streets which service three long and three cross streets. There are many people living in this area who are owners of various classes of vehicle. It is a vexing matter when one has to drive here because of the deplorable state of the streets. Now that the rains have come you can imagine the agony drivers face in traversing these streets, but who have no alternative because they live there. Many taxi-drivers refuse to take passengers into the area, especially if their vehicles are in good condition.
Several times the NDC used a bobcat to grade and level the roads, which returned to their deplorable state after a while.

They need to be done properly as in the case of the road leading to the Diamond Secondary School.

But while the front streets here need to be addressed with some urgency, the area beyond the last street in the New Scheme is fast becoming a huge garbage dump. The stench emanating from there pervades the homes in the vicinity. That particular area has the potential of being something better as it comes directly between the last street and the canal to the east of it. The relevant authorities need to be proactive in addressing this situation.

This is one community where residents are very excited about ongoing developments. This is also one community where the price of house lots which are being resold by owners is as much as 1500 per cent higher than what they had initially cost.

It is no wonder that accidents have begun to occur because the road (unfortunately only one) needs to have parapets on both sides for pedestrians to use. There needs to be lights at the head of every street, urgently. The road should have white lines separating the two lanes, and also white lines separating the road from the parapet.

I am sure that if attention is given to some of the suggestions mentioned here, some level of comfort and safety would be experienced by the residents.

Yours faithfully,
