‘Letters not published’

Dear Editor,

I am writing to clarify your policy on the publication of letters in Stabroek News’ letter section. My inquiry arises from the fact that several letters to the editor of mine were not published. I have also noted that the vast majority of letters published in the newspaper are, broadly speaking, critical of the current PPP administration, and that many are inflammatory or outright anti-government. I have also noted that some letter writers get their pieces published the very next day, and that these same writers are published as a matter of routine. I can name them if you so desire.

Stabroek News has the right to marginalise any writer(s) it wishes, because it is indeed a private entity. This correspondence is intended to seek clarification of your policy.

Please note a copy of this correspondence will be sent to the Guyana Press Associa-tion.

Yours faithfully,
Randy Persaud

Editor’s note

As Dr Persaud is already aware, a letter which has appeared in some other section of the press will generally not be published by SN. If its content refers specifically to something which was carried in another newspaper and not in this one, it will as a general rule not be published by SN unless the other paper declines to publish it.
