Amelia’s Ward residents were informed by GWI about reduced water pressure

Dear Editor,

Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) wishes to respond to your article, dated Wednesday October 13, 2010, titled ‘Amelia’s Ward water woes continue.’ Contrary to your report, customers of Amelia’s Ward were informed about the reduced water pressure which resulted from electricity fluctuations affecting GWI’s production site.  Customers were informed by way of visits by GWI’s Linden team.  GWI’s Divisional Operations Manager (Linden), Rawle Friday has confirmed that his team visited the homes of affected customers within the community.

Further, GWI is working assiduously with the Linden Electricity Company Inc (LECI) to ensure that adequate power is available for the restoration of normal water supply. During this period, customers are urged to desist from pumping water from mains. This practice prevents customers who are located at the high gradient areas from accessing water. Customers are also advised to conserve on water during the 18:00h and 06:00h peak periods. As an alternative, customers are advised to store water during the off-peak periods.  During use, black tanks should be monitored and turned off to avoid wastage.

GWI apologizes to customers for any inconvenience caused and wishes to thank your publication for highlighting the issues which affect our customers. For further information customers can contact us at our Customer Services Call Centre on 227-8701 or email us at customercallcentre@gwi.gy

Yours faithfully,
Timothy Austin
