The Bureau of Statistics building and the Mackenzie terminal were one and the same

Dear Editor,

Following extensive contact with the Guyanese diaspora as well as people at home, Rod Grimes-Graeme, a former pilot now resident in Antigua, has submitted proof to solve the saga of the origin of the National Bureau of Statistics building (opposite Parliament Building in High Street), which was demolished in November 2010.

Rod lived in Mackenzie from 1945 to 1952, and sent three photos from his family album, one of which was taken at the Mackenzie airport terminal in 1946. These pictures confirm that the terminal and the statistics building were the same, providing proof that the terminal was taken down and re-erected in High Street.
Yours faithfully,
Godfrey Chin

Mr Chin has written a ‘Nostalgia’ on this subject which will be published in our Sunday edition of December 5, and will include Mr Grimes-Graeme’s photographs.
