TSC beats UG in two days

Transport Sports Cub (TSC) disposed of the University of Guyana (UG) in two days in the fifth round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) three-day first division tournament at the Eve Leary ground yesterday.

The university team was required to make 141 runs to make TSC bat again but the students were bowled out for exactly 141- giving TSC one run to win just after tea on the second day.

Melroy Stephenson top scored with 46 and E. Seepersaud chipped in with 21; Azim Azeez (4-43 from 17.5) and Carl Rambharose (2-31 from 6) were the best bowlers for TSC.

When UG won the toss and batted last week Sunday they made 187 all out from 46.1 overs with D. Seepersaud (42), T. English (35), and Richard Chatura (31) being the chief scorers.

Kevin Ross grabbed a five-wicket haul to end with figures of 5-55 (18.1), along with Azim Azeez who snared 4-48 (11) conspired to wrap up the UG team quickly.

In reply Stephen Alves scored 115 in his team’s imposing 328 (77.1) and got valuable support from Rawle Enmore (54) and Marc Nicholson (35). Chatura returned with the ball to take 4-63 (24) while R. Cameron and R. Crawford had 3-27 (5) and 2-64 (13) respectively.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF), currently on 18 without loss after the umpires ended the day due to bad light, needs 45 more runs to win going into the final day today. Marcus Watkins and Delroy Jacobs are the not out batsmen at the crease on 14 and four respectively over at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) against Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC).

GDF, resuming from their first day score of 99-3 in response to GNIC’s 142 all out in 56.5 overs, eventually settled at 202 all out from 67.3 overs. Delon Heyliger and Jeremiah Harris, restarting on 25 and seven reached 54 and 24 respectively; on the first day Delroy Jacobs (37) and Watkins (23) were the main scorers.

Karl Hilliman and Collis Butts were the pick of the bowlers for GNIC with 4-44 (17) and 2-67 from 28.3 overs.

In GNIC’s second innings they were routed for another low score of 123 with Marvin Fitzalbert scoring 66 and Rayon Griffith 26.

Trevon Garraway, in addition to his first innings figures of 2-26, returned to pick up 4-52 (13) while he was supported by Harris’ 3-54 (11) Quinton Collin’s 2-3 (1.2).

When GNIC batted in the first innings Fitzalbert top scored with 34 and Delroy Charles contributed 32 to his team’s total. Denis Legay spearheaded the bowling with figures of 2-19. He got valuable support from Garraway and Heyliger who had figures of 2-38 from 10 overs.
