NCN Under-15 Inter-zone Cricket Competition

Lower Corentyne defeated Central/Upper Corentyne at the Albion Community Centre Cricket ground by nine wickets while at the Rose Hall Canje ground, West Berbice created a major upset by getting past New Amsterdam/ Canje.

At the Albion ground, LC crushed Central/ Upper Corentyne, as they batted first after winning the toss.  Central/Upper Corentyne were bundled out for 72 in 31 overs. Edison Williams top scored with 17 for Central Corentyne while Akash Persaud and Imran Khan chipped in with 15 and 14 respectively, the only batsmen to reach double figures.

The LC bowling attack was led by Avinash Wahid and Arif Chan who claimed three wickets each for 23 and nine respectively while skipper Shawn Perreira bagged 2 – 0. In reply, Lower Corentyne floated to 75 for 1 in 17 overs with Parmanand Narine playing an unbeaten innings of 30 and Nicholas Cameron was not out on 20 while Nazrudeen Bux, the other opener, was dismissed for 15.

At the Canje ground, West Berbice batted on winning the toss and reached 158 all out in 40 of their allotted 50 overs.

Quacy Mc Pherson and Royston Wade top scored with 38 and 35 against the attack of medium pacer Nial Smith who finished with 6 – 32. Smith, the son of former national senior coach Albert Smith, was well supported by off spinner Marlon Shepherd who took 3 – 20.

In reply New Amsterdam/ Canje collapsed to 122 all out in 42 Overs. At one stage they were 84 – 2. Opener Shimron Hetmyer, the younger brother of national Under-19 player Seon Hetmyer, top scored with a fluent 40 while Hakeem Hinds (15) and Andre Grant (19) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Kevon Jawahir was the best bowler for West Berbice taking 4 for 13 Kevon Derick Narine supporting with 2 – 16.
