Ravens basketballers record victories in Open and Third Division encounters

Ravens Basketball Club recorded victories in the Open and Third Division categories when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Open and Division Three Leagues continued Sunday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).

On Sunday in the Open category, Ravens humbled Courts Pacesetters 79 – 58.

Prior to that game, Ravens’ Third Division team comfortably defeated Maccabees 68 – 60 while the Guyana Defence Force pipped Eagles 67 – 65 in a nail biting encounter.

In the Open match, Pacesetters led 54 – 45 at the half but, with the help of Ryan Gullen and Dwayne Roberts, who scored 16 and 14 points respectively, coupled with disciplined defence, the Ravens players were able to put the opposition scoring on hold and capitalize on their openings to score.

Rodwell Fortune supported with 13 points for Ravens.

Horace Hodges and Royston Siland were the main scorers for Pacesetters with 14 and 12 points respectively.

Marlon Haynes scored 18 points for the Third Division team to help Ravens out of an 11-point deficit (34 – 23) at half time.

Tyrone Hamid was dominant around the court for his 12 points while Samuel Thompson and Darren Thomas each scored 10 points for Maccabees.

In the opening encounter, GDF and Eagles were neck and neck throughout the match with Eagles leading 35–33 going into the half.

However, with the help of Ryan Scott and Rondel Edwards who each contributed 18 points, and Gershom Sawers (12) they were able to hold off Eagles for the two-point victory.

Wayne Harris was Eagles leading scorer with 14 points while Nazim Mohammad pitched in with 10.

Action continues tonight from 6pm with three matches on the card including the Melanie Patriots Courts Pacesetters encounter.

Then, Nets will clash with Bounty Colts in a Third Division encounter and East/West Fire will battle with Beepat Scorpions in the final match of the night.

Patriots will be led by point guard, Floyd Arthur while Nets’ leading scorer, Glenroy Adams, will be looking to lead his team past Bounty Colts.
