Members of the basketball community came out in their numbers to express their grief at the loss of the late basketball star.

The tribute was attended by Lawrence’s family, friends and basketball teams from around Georgetown.

Persons in attendance shared some of the experiences they had with Lawrence and spoke well of the young basketball player.

Trevor Rose, GABA president, announced that the association will be unveiling the Kevin Lawrence Trophy at the upcoming `Super 8 Wards` basketball competition which runs from April 10 to May 2.

He stated that a special competition will be held for the Kevin Lawrence Trophy after the current Open and third division league and the Super 8 Wards competitions are concluded.

The team that wins the annual competition for the Kevin Lawrence Trophy three years in succession will be allowed to keep the trophy. Until then, teams will hold it for one month then it will be returned to GABA and a plaque with the winner’s team name and year the competition was played,  will be placed on the trophy.

A replica of the trophy will also be presented to the winning team for them to keep.

Rose added that the winner of the current Open and Third division leagues will also be presented with the Kevin Lawrence trophy.

The GABA also plans to have members of the basketball community sign a large poster of Lawrence at the opening of the `Super 8 Ward` competition. This will then be presented to Lawrence’s parents.

Rose said that he was happy with the number of persons that attended the tribute and extended thanks to the UGSS, Lawrence’s family, friends and the local basketball clubs for attending the tribute.
