The sprint megastar holds the individual World record for the 100 and 200, and is set to participate in the relay as part of the United States vs the World event.
“We are thrilled that Usain Bolt will be running at the Penn Relays,” said meet director Dave Johnson.“He ran here four years in a row as a teenager, and this will be his first time back since he became the sport’s biggest star.”
Also known for his prowess in relay competition, Bolt teamed up with his compatriots Steve Mullings, Michael Frater, and Asafa Powell in winning the men’s 4×100 relay gold medal at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany, in a meet record time of 37.31 seconds.
He was also part of the Jamaican World record-setting 4×100 relay that clocked 37.10 secs at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.
Bolt was named the IAAF 2009 World Athlete-of-the-Year for the second year in a row, after winning the 100 and 200 finals in World record times at the World Championships, which matched his sprint double at the Beijing Olympics.
He also collected the World Sportsman-of-the-Year award for this feat, after he became the first man to hold the Olympic and World Championship titles in those events at the same time.
United States vs The World since 2000 has brought the best relay teams from around the globe to this American city to compete at one of the World’s premier track & field events.
Participating countries have included Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Netherlands Antilles, Bahamas, Britain, Russia, Australia, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Germany, South Africa, and Nigeria, among others.
The United States vs The World series is the first event in USA Track & Field’s 2010 Outdoor Championship Series and is in its 10th year of competition.
