Lyght leads DCC to easy win over Police

Police won the toss and decided to field, but their bowlers were hammered by the DCC batsmen who accumulated 212 runs for eight wickets off their 20 overs.

The right-handed Andrew Lyght Jnr. of DCC scored a pugnacious 89 runs which included eight sixes and five fours. PSC’s Jason Heyliger and Randolph Knights took two wickets each.

When PSC batted they only mustered a mere 82 runs with national medium pacer Trevor Benn contributing 37 runs.

Leron Primo and Denis Squires took most of the Police wickets with four and three wickets respectively.

In other games played yesterday, Transport Sports Club lost by eight wickets to Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) at Police ground after they only managed to score 109 before being bowled out.

GCC’s openers knocked off TSC’s score in 11.1 overs and ended the match on 112 for two; Wasim Haslim struck eight fours and three sixes in his innings of 71 not out.

Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) went crumbling to Everest by two runs. Everest batted first after winning the toss and scored 129 for nine after their 20 overs.

In response GNIC fell just short as they managed 127-8 before their innings expired.

Meanwhile, across at the Malteenoes ground, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) easily defeated Malteenoes Cricket Club which was bowled out in 18.5 overs for 111 runs. GDF in reply scored 112 for three in 16.4 overs with Dilon Heyliger remaining not out on 64 runs; His knock was decorated with six maximums and two fours.

The preliminary round will continue tomorrow with Zone A and B matches at DCC, Police, Malteenoes and GDF grounds at 10am and 2pm.
