Memorex XI crowned Sunny Boy T20 softball champs  

Memorex XI carted off the Sunny Boy Milk Powder T20 softball trophy after beating rivals Ariel XI by 14 runs in the final last Sunday at  Everest Cricket Club ground.

Memorex XI took first strike after winning the toss and scored a challenging 185-5 off their allotted overs, while Ariel XI, in reply, were dismissed for 171.

Man-of-the-match Lalbachan Veerasammy led the way for the Berbicians with an attractive 55 and received admirable support from the consistent David Lukenauth, who hit a fine 52.

The two also shared a steady 87-run third-wicket stand. Veerasammy smashed two sixes and three fours while Lukenauth struck two sixes and the same number of fours. Skipper Tony Amerrally was also among the runs with 28 which included two fours and a quick 15 not out from Vidian DaSilva towards the end.

Samuel Kingston ended with 2 – 19 off three overs, delivering for the city team. When Ariel XI chased the target, three batsmen got good starts, but failed to convert them into meaningful contributions.

Richard Latif went for 30, while Azad Azeez and Amrit Jairam chipped in with 29 and 26 respectively as Sawh Mohamed grabbed three wickets for 16 runs from four tidy overs.

Meanwhile, in the two female exhibition matches earlier, Uitvlugt beat GT&T and Kitty All Stars, while in the male encounter, Clear Waters XI thrashed Superior Wood by ten wickets in their grudge match.
The ladies’ games were six-over affairs and the Clear Waters XI/Superior Wood featured in a ten-over contest.

During the day’s activities, spectators got a treat after  answering questions related to  Sunny Boy Milk Powder and won themselves 1,800g and 900g tins of the product, compliments of the sponsor, International Pharmaceutical Agency Group of Companies.

The victorious team in the championship game received a trophy and $40,000, while the runners-up collected $25, 000 and a trophy as well. Veersammy took home a trophy for his effort.

Clear Waters XI pocketed $25,000 and a trophy and Mark Fung, who was the Man-of-the-match, also collected a trophy.

Uitvlugt received a trophy with Nalini Sumintra receiving the player-of-the-match trophy. All the trophies for the exhibition and grudge matches were sponsored by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and City Hall.
