Mayor’s Cup quarter- finals begin tomorrow

The Mayor’s Cup Football Tournament quarter-final games are expected to kick off tomorrow at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground with a potentially exciting double-header.

The first clash will see the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) team tackling Uprising, from 6pm. The GDF will have in their line-up Stellon David, Sheik Kamal, Esie Philips, Royan Morrison and Warren Gilkes. Uprising, meanwhile, will be expecting strong performances from their players Rensford Coleridge, Daniel Favourite, Omali Nassy, Terrence Lewis and Keith Fraser.

In the feature match at 8 pm, Alpha United and Riddim Squad will compete in an eagerly anticipated encounter.  Howard Lowe, Kelvin Mc Kenzie, Shawn Bishop, Anthony Abrams, Dwight Peters and Dwayne Jacobs will lead the charge for Alpha United.  However, they can expect stiff opposition from a line-up which includes Steffon Hope, Sceyon Hope, Lyliton Ramsay, Sherwin Hope, Amos Ramsay and Sheldon Hope.

The last two quarter-final games will take place on Wednesday, when Santos take on Sea Wall FC at 6 pm and Western Tigers challenge Conquerors at 8 pm.

The first of the semi-finals will take place on May 14 at 8 pm when the winners of the Western Tigers/Conquerors match will go up against the winner of the Santos/Sea Wall FC match.

The semi-finals will continue on May 21 when the GDF/Uprising winner will challenge the victor of the Alpha United/Riddim Squad match-up.

The final is set for May 30 at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, with the winner receiving $500,000. The second place winner will walk away $200,000 richer, while the third and fourth place teams will receive $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. The third place play-off is also set for May 30.

Concurrently, the Female Inter-Association Tournament is set to continue with Lethem going against East Coast in Lethem on May 1.  Linden is set to challenge East Coast at the MSC ground, while Bartica will take on Lethem at the GFC ground on May 15 from 4 pm.
Two other matches are scheduled for the GFC ground with Georgetown going against Lethem on May 18 at 5pm and Georgetown battling Linden on May 22 at 6 pm.

The last match is to scheduled take place in Bartica where the home team will compete against Linden on May 29 at 4pm.
