Final three matches in GLTA Doubles Tournament billed for today

The Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) Doubles Tournament will discover the last of its winners when the match-up unfolds on the lawns of the Pegasus Hotel to conclude the final three matches today.

Sponsored by Trophy Stall of Bourda Market, the tournament was originally expected to end last weekend but inclement weather caused the completion to be rescheduled for today. As a result of this, the GBTI Open which should have started this weekend has been put back by one week.

The last of the semi-finals will come to an end as the mixed semi-finals are contested when Ezra Sue-Ho and partner Shawna Gentle go against Gilbert Barckoy and Grace McCalman at 9:00 hrs.

The mixed finals will then follow commencing at 14:00 hrs between the winner of the semi-finals and Philip Squires and Aruna Ramrattan.

At 18:00 hrs the men’s final will end the tournament when Squires returns partnered with Godfrey Lowden to vie against Barckoy and teammate Leyland Leacock.

The winners so far for the doubles are:

Aruna Ramrattan/Shawna Gentle who defeated Nicola Ramdyhan/Krystal Sukra in the girls finals, the scores were 7-5/6-7/7-5.

In the boys finals Daniel Lopes/Gavin Lewis defeated family team Seanden and Saevion Longe, with scores 6-7 / 6-1 / 6-2.

In the men’s 55 and over finals Fritz McLean/Brian Fung were defeated by Maxie Fox/Steve Surujbally, score 6-1 / 6-1.

Men’s 45 and over final, Omar Persaud/Godfrey Lowden defeated Fox/Surujbally with scores 6-2 / 3-0, Surujbally retired.

In the men’s 35 and over, Don Singh and Sanjeev Datadin won round robin 2 games to nil.
