Mohammed, Ferrier and Blyden shine in last round

Guyanese cricketers ensured Aranguez reached a mammoth 409-6 declared against Canefarm in the last round of the Trinidad and Tobago Two-day League championships over the weekend.

Aranguez, winning the toss and batting on a slow wicket, amassed 409-6 declared with Faizul Mohammed stroking 105, Malteenoes Sports Club’s (MSC) all-rounder Deon Ferrier 78, Michael Brown 78 and Kellon Carmichael hitting an unbeaten 35.

In reply Canefarm were bundled out for 90 with Ferrier, returning with the ball, to snare 4-25 and while local club mate Carmichael supported with 3-12. Needing 320 for Aranguez to bat again Canefarm were bowled out for a meagre 102. Ferrier was again among the wickets with 3-40 and Carmichael contributed with 2-20. Aranguez finished the league in the fifth position from the 12-team championship.

The competition will now continue with the Carib Beer 50-over league next Sunday.  Aranguez are unbeaten with 2 more first round games remaining before the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Rousillac United bowled out Caldrac Sports Club for 173 all-out after which they were routed 129. Guyana Defence Force’s all-rounder Travis Blyden top scored with 40, which included five fours and a six while GNIC’s opening batsman Elton Baker chipped in with 22 for Rousillac United.

Caldrac returned in the second innings and posted a huge 395-7 declared leaving Rousillac with a target of 444 runs to win. They were eventually bowled out for 395 with Blyden making 85 (8×4, 3×6); Baker was run-out for 24, which consisted of two boundaries.
