Guyana outshine competition at Trinidad and Tobago Police Athletics Championships

Leota Babb, Larry Josiah, Michael Saul and Michael Pollydore displayed the creditable athletic skills of Guyana’s disciplined services when they performed laudably at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Athletics Championships held last week. The Guyana Police Force team participated in field and track events from May 3 – 8  at the St. James Barracks in the twin island republic.  The four-man team that left Guyana performed wel,l and a sole fourth place position in javelin was the only score to taint the team’s harvest of firsts.

Josiah bagged the distance races, while Constables Babb and Saul dominated their sprinting events and Constable Pollydore took over in field events.

Lance Corporal Josiah going for nothing less than first in each of his events was judged the best overseas male athlete, while lone female team member Babb with a similar performance received the female equivalent. Josiah was entered in the 5K road race, the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m races walking away with first in each event. Babb dominated the  100m, 200m, 400m and an invitational 100m while Saul was also first in the 60m, 100m and 200m events.  Pollydore was first in the shot put and discus, but threw to a  fourth place in the javelin.
