BCB to launch elite training programme May 23

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will launch an Elite Training Programme to facilitate senior cricketers in the county on May 23 at the Albion Community Development Centre ground.

The event, which is part of the BCB’s developmental programme for the county, will be conducted under the supervision of senior coach Adrian Amsterdam along with Winston Smith and former national coach Albert Smith.

Chairman of the Special Events Committee, Hilbert Foster, explained that the main aim of the programme was to ensure that the players remained active and focused during the rainy season.

A release from the BCB stated that the board did not want its senior players to lose focus or become unfit ahead of the Inter-county 20/20 tournament scheduled for late June.

The senior cricket selectors, under Chairman Mark Lyte, have named 30 players to be part of the training programme.

They will be joined by several Under-19 players who the selectors believe have the potential to develop into senior players in the near future.

The programme will be officially launched at the Albion Main Hall with Carl Moore delivering the feature address.  The selected players are Assad Fudadin, Richard Ramdeen, Sewnarine Chattergoon, Renwick Batson, Devendra Bishoo, Jason Sinclair, Royston Crandon, Anthony Bramble, Arthley Bailey, Keyron Fraser, Keon Joseph, Keith Fraser, Rajiv Ivan, Michael Newland, Eugene La Fleur, Esaun Crandon, Krisendat Ramoo, Seon Hetmyer, Homchand Pooran, Troy Mathieson, Romaine Boodram, Eon Hooper, Vishal Mohabir, Videsh Singh, Sasenarine Sukhdeo, Raid Ally, Shaffiek Khan, Devon Clements and Delbert Hicks.

Dominic Rickey, Harrinarine Chattergoon, Shawn Perreira, Lloyden Lewis, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Joemal La Fleur, Raun Johnson, Shailendra Shameer, Kevin Ramdeen and Sherwin Mc Pherson are the selected U-19 players.

Players such as Narsingh Deonarine, Brendon Bess, and Veerasammy Permaul are overseas and are expected to join the programme when they return.

These players will also be involved in several classroom lectures over the next month as the BCB strives to get them to understand the importance of discipline and the responsibility of playing for the county, the release stated.
