Celebrities entertain fans at charity game

Local celebrities in the fields of sports and entertainment displayed their ball-handling skills and proved they can also entertain fans on the basketball court Saturday Night when the Fire Basketball Club staged its inaugural Celebrity Charity Game at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The celebrities did well to put on a show for the charitable event where the proceeds will go to the Joshua House Orphanage and to assist with uniforms for the recently formed Fire Basketball Club.

The celebrities had been training hard for the game and they definitely showed the fruits of that training when they split into two teams and engaged in an entertaining basketball contest for the fair amount of patrons who turned up to see the display.

The evening’s feature game was graced by local personalities such as rapper `Gialiani’ (Don Gialiani), Kirk `Chow Pow’ Jardine, national rugby player, Theodore Henry and national cricketers Leon Johnson, Christopher Barnwell and Steven Jacobs among others as the teams went head-to-head to head for bragging rights.

In supporting games prior to the celebrities clash, Scotia Bank got the better of Republic Bank after their rivalry spilled into overtime while in the evening’s curtain-raiser, the University of Guyana edged a one point (37-36) win over the Media All-Stars.
