Starr Computers presents footballs to winners in World Cup Promotion

The promotion was launched simultaneously with the start of the FIFA World Cup on June 11.

Yesterday’s presentation, after the daily drawings to identify last week’s winners, was the first in the promotion.

Manager of Starr Computers, Rehman Majeed, who is an ardent football fan, told Stabroek Sport after the presentation that his business has been engaged in promoting football for quite some time because he believes it has the potential to become the country’s number one sport.

“We have done things for football before and we believe that football will override cricket, it’s only time,” Majeed said.

He further noted that the aim of the promotion was not only to highlight the sport, since the World Cup is already playing that role, but in his view it can play a part in helping kids to develop their football skills.

“Giving a ball goes further than promoting the sport, at the end of the day if a kid gets a ball he can do a lot with it… I feel if you have a ball at home you can do a lot with it towards developing your skills on your own,” Majeed emphasized.

He said also that another reason for giving out a ball in the promotion other than bringing further awareness to the sport is that “there’s a lot of hype right now” which they can build on and develop a further liking for the game locally.

“These are things that can trigger off… By doing this, if the World Cup is thirty days, thirty people will have a football in their home who probably didn’t have one before,” Majeed added.

Any purchase from Starr Computers gives a customer a chance to win one of the footballs which is beautifully designed with the flags of the participating teams of the FIFA World Cup 2010.

The ball can also be kept as a souvenir by those who opt not to use it for playing  or those who cannot play football because it can be placed on a souvenir stand which is presented with the ball.

Starr Computers will be giving away a football each day for the remainder of the World Cup and drawings will take place daily, while presentations will be done weekly.

For a chance to win customers will be required to write their name and contact information  on their receipt of purchase and drop it into the box provided at the store.

Last week’s  winners are  Anandat Singh, Jasorda Kishna, Ray Beharry, Steve Mongal, Fedel Khan, Ricaldo Purnwasy, Nazim Hussain and Child Evangelism Fellowship who was represented by Vada Ram.
