Strauss inspires England to crushing win over Bangladesh

LONDON, (Reuters) – England captain Andrew Strauss  struck a brilliant century to lead his team to a crushing  144-run victory over Bangladesh in the third one-day  international in Birmingham yesterday.

The touring side, buoyed by their first ever win over  England on Saturday, won the toss but Strauss smashed 154 to  lift the hosts to a huge total of 347 for seven and they bowled  out Bangladesh for 203 to clinch the series 2-1.

Strauss and Jonathan Trott, who made 110, shared a second-wicket stand of 250, England’s highest one-day  international partnership, and a sparkling unbeaten 45 off 16  balls by Ravi Bopara powered his side to their third largest  score in 50-over cricket.

Bangladesh went for their shots from the start but they lost  wickets at regular intervals and never threatened to get close  to their target.

Fast bowler Ajmal Shahzad removed dangerman Tamim Iqbal for  16 and only an eighth-wicket partnership of 56 between  Mahmudullah and Abdur Razzak took Bangladesh past 200.

Bopara was England’s most successful bowler with figures of  four for 38.
