T&T eye full points after Joseph, bowlers crush Guyana

DENNERY, St Lucia, CMC – A clinical second day effort from Trinidad and Tobago put them in a tremendous position to take full points over Guyana in their final round TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge encounter here yesterday.

Firstly, their varied bowling attack sent Guyana tumbling for paltry 110 in response to their first innings 229, and Kieron Joseph then slammed a stroke-filled century to fire his side to 219 for three at the close.

The display handed T&T an overall lead of 338 and they will be heavily tipped to beat Guyana on the final day of the match at the Dennery Playing Field today.

It was Joseph’s century that snatched control of the match for T&T, as he slammed 10 fours and sixes in his unbeaten 118 that required just over three hours batting.

He put on an even hundred for the first wicket with Nicholas Alexis who scored 40 with four fours and one six.

Joseph, who also stroked a century in the last round of matches, then added a further 87 for the third wicket with Yannic Cariah who got 33.

Earlier, Guyana were undermined by T&T’s bowlers after resuming at their overnight 49 for two.

Harrinarine Chattergoon, unbeaten on 29 at the start, top-scored with 48 while his overnight partner Dominique Rickhi failed to add to his 19.

Fast bowler Teshawn Castro was devastating with three for 12 while medium pacer Derone Davis claimed three for 24 and off-spinner Sachin Boodram, two for 42.
