Jevina Straker placed in ‘B’ finals of girls 1000m

Guyana’s leading junior long distance lady, Jevina Straker, despite placing twelfth in the 1000m qualifiers on Wednesday night, local time, has now been placed in the “B” finals of the girls 1000m of the World Youth Olympic Games currently on in Singapore.

Scheduled to run on the morning of August 19, with Singapore being 12 hours ahead of Guyana, Straker clocked a time of three minutes and 8.19 seconds in the first heat to finish the race in twelfth position.

The race was won in two minutes and 43.55 seconds by Ukraine’s Anastasiya Tkachuk, followed by Britain’s Georgia Peel (2:45.78) and Switzerland’s Andrina Schlaepfer in the third spot (2:46.09).

Straker will get her last chance to improve  her performance early Monday, August 23 (Singapore time) when she is next expected to perform.

Straker’s performance will be preceded by that of Chavez Ageday who had placed third in his boys 100m heats on Wednesday last and has been placed in the ‘B’ finals heats and will take to the track tomorrow.

And while Ageday is scheduled to display his legwork on the track at Bishan Stadium that night, Guyana’s table tennis starlet Adielle Roushevel will be competing at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Roushevel will open her day competing against Brazil’s Caroline Kumahara at 10:30 am (Singapore local time). Roushevel will then move on to her match-up against Chinese Taipei’s Hsin Huang, once again at Table 4 at 12:30PM.
Changing to Table 3 at 14:30 hrs Roushevel will go against Russia’s Yana Noskova.

With her first performance tomorrow, Roushevel will be the last of Guyana’s four participants to compete as her events at present  stretch all the way to August 24. Then  Roushevel will take part in her mixed doubles where she teams up with Ecuador’s Rodrigo Tapia to form the mixed continental team.
