Yap Drepaul guided Night Crescendo to a narrow win over Message to take the feature B and lower class race when the Rising Sun Turf Club and True Friendship Committee staged their grand horse race meet at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice, on Sunday.
Night Crescendo, from Senior Counsel Marcel Crawford Stable, powered ahead of the Message in the 11-horse 1400m event. Pre-race favourite, Message, suffered a bad start, leaving the field wide open before Prince Charming made a decisive run down the back straight. When the horses made the final turn for home, Drepaul spurred Night Crescendo at the right time to take the lead ahead of Silver Source, Prince Charming and a fast finishing Message.
However, Message had too much making up to do and Night Crescendo crossed the line by a half a length to take the $400,000 top prize and trophy compliments of Banks DIH. Silver Source ended third and Prince Charming, fourth. Jumbo Jet Stable’s Appealing Harvest galloped to an easy victory in the three-year-old horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies event over 1100m.
The winner claimed $250,000 and a trophy compliments of Ansa Mc Al Trading.
Zelona, Stormy Lass and Sky is the Limit rounded out the money positions.
Jumbo Jet Stable produced another winner when Sabrina’s Joy won the two-year-old event for horses also born and bred in the West Indies and Guyana. It took away $200,000 and the BK International trophy. Drepaul was again unstoppable when he guided The Gap to victory in the Digicel E class race ahead of Zelona, Dutchman and South Sea. The win was worth $160,000 over a distance of 1100m. In the race for the Guyana-bred two-year-old horses, Royal Salute of the Baksh Stable and ridden by Andy Williams, won ahead of Kevin, Nordan and Starjinsky. The race, which was sponsored by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), saw the winner taking away $150,000. Gabriel’s Gold, mounted by Paul Delph, of the Jumbo Jet Stable was in winners’ row in the G class 1400m event and took away the top prize of $140,000.
Stylish Line, Prixie Fire and World Class occupied the next three places respectively.
Sun Razor of the Rohit Stable won both the I class and I-3 events which were sponsored by the National Milling Company (NAMILCO) and Hand-In-Hand Insurance Company.
In other races, Nobody Knows of the Anderson Stable made itself known when it ran away from Natural Black to win the J class event copping $100,000 and the Citizens Bank trophy in the process.
Meanwhile, with three wins Jumbo Jet Stable ran away with the champion stable prize while Jockey Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul was adjudged the top rider. The best Apprentice Jockey prize went to Andy Williams who was rewarded by the proprietor of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
