Joe Public eyeing win to remain alive for quarter-finals

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad,  CMC
– Pro League champions Joe Public clash with Municipal of Guatemala here tonight needing full points in order to remain in the hunt for a quarter-final spot in the CONCACAF Champions League. Joe Public is currently bottom of the four-team Group B table with a single point from three matches but just one point ahead of Municipal.

Coach Derek King said he was aware of the gravity of the 8 pm encounter at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

“Coming into the tournament we knew we needed to win our home matches to have a chance of qualifying for the next stage,” he said.“We have already lost to Santos at home so we now have to make sure and get wins in our other two matches beginning with Municipal.

“The guys know we can’t afford to falter anymore as we need to win our final three matches and we are all up for the challenge.”

When Joe Public and Municipal met in Guatemala last month, the T&T club champions needed an injury-time goal to earn a 1-1 draw.

They will be boosted by the return of KareemYoung, Andre Toussaint, Andel Noray and Devon Jamerson who missed the away leg due to visa issues.

However, they will miss the suspended national defender Carlyle Mitchell while midfielder Trent Noel is struggling to be fit for the contest.
